Terms of Service

Last updated 2 October 2026.

The short version

The Recall Vault helps you track what you own, remind you before warranties run out, and check your items against product safety recalls. Recall matching is provided on a best-efforts basis using third-party data we don't control, so we can't guarantee it will catch every recall — see the section below on that. For vehicles and child safety equipment especially, this service is a helpful extra layer, not a substitute for checking directly with the manufacturer or an official regulator.

The service

The Recall Vault is a home inventory service: you record items you own (brand, model, serial or batch number, purchase details, receipts and photos), and we use that to track warranty expiry, keep reference details and documents to hand, and match your items against product safety recall notices from participating regulators.

Your account

You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure, and for the accuracy of what you enter or forward into your vault. Your account includes a unique email address for forwarding receipts — treat it like a password; anything sent to it is added to your vault.

Household sharing

On Premium, you can invite one other person to share full access to your vault. Access is shared, but the account and its billing remain yours — you're responsible for who you invite and for the accuracy of anything they add or edit. An invited member can see and edit everything in the vault, including items, documents and chat history added by either of you. Either of you can end the sharing at any time from Account settings, and it ends automatically if the Premium subscription lapses.

Subscriptions and billing

A free tier is available with a limited number of items and without recall alerts or document export. Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in GBP through our payment processor, Stripe, and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account; a cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you've already paid for, and we don't provide partial refunds for unused time except where required by law.

Recall information — best endeavours, not a guarantee

Recall data comes from third-party regulatory feeds and data providers that we don't control. We use reasonable, best endeavours to sync that data and match it against the items in your vault, but we do not guarantee that we will identify every recall that may affect an item you own, that a recall will be identified before you'd otherwise have learned of it, or that a match (or the absence of one) is accurate or complete. Matching depends entirely on the brand, model, serial number, batch code and other details you've provided — if that information is missing, incomplete, or incorrect, our matching cannot be either.

You should still register your products directly with their manufacturers where possible, and check official regulator and manufacturer recall resources directly rather than relying on this service alone, particularly for anything safety-critical.

Monitoring starts when you add an item. We only check items you have added and confirmed in your vault — we do not monitor products you haven't recorded with us. When you add an item, we check it against the recall notices we hold at that time, and we then keep checking it as new notices are synced and when you edit it. We do not hold every historical recall from every regulator: what we cover depends on our data sources and how far back each has been synced, so a recall issued before you added an item, or before we began syncing a source, may not appear. For products you owned before using The Recall Vault, check official regulator and manufacturer recall resources directly.

Vehicles and child safety equipment

Items in the Vehicle and Child categories — including car seats — carry particularly serious safety consequences if a recall is missed. The Recall Vault does not certify, warrant, or guarantee that any vehicle or child safety item is safe to use, whether or not our system has identified a recall match for it. Using this service is not a substitute for registering the product directly with its manufacturer, checking the manufacturer's or the relevant government regulator's website directly, or following professional safety guidance. Always check official sources directly for anything affecting the safety of a vehicle or a child, and do not rely solely on The Recall Vault for that decision.

Content you provide, and AI-extracted data

When you paste a receipt or upload a photo, we use an AI extraction step to read details like brand, model and price. That extraction can be wrong or incomplete, which is why every extracted item enters your vault as pending until you confirm it. Please review extracted details before confirming, and correct anything that's missing or inaccurate.

Automatic removal of expired items

So your vault doesn't fill up with out-of-date records, items that have an expiry date — a warranty, an insurance policy, a use-by date or a passport — are removed automatically once that date is well past. Sixty days after an item's expiry date it is moved to your Trash, and we email you about seven days beforehand.

Items stay in Trash for 30 days, and you can restore them from there. After that, the item and any documents attached to it are permanently deleted and can't be recovered.

Items in the Child and Vehicle categories, and items with no expiry date, aren't removed automatically. If you want to keep a record of something that has expired, you can download an export of your data from Account settings before it is removed.

Acceptable use

Please don't use The Recall Vault to submit content you don't have the right to share, to attempt to access another account or vault, to interfere with the service, or to forward unsolicited bulk email to your inbox address.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Recall Vault is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from reliance on recall information, warranty date calculations, or AI-extracted data that turns out to be inaccurate or incomplete. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

[A specific limit on our liability for other losses will be set out here following legal review — deliberately left unset in this draft.]

Termination

You can stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches the acceptable use terms above, or where we're required to by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do, and for material changes we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you directly.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. [To be confirmed on legal review.]
